“Dialogue in the Dark”: Journey Into A World Without Sight
An interview with Dialogue in the Dark Creative Director John Zaller and Guide Gloria Fisher
Show Length: 20 minutes
In this podcast, I’ll take you with me on a journey into a world of darkness…where people use their hands, hearing and sense of smell to discover where they are. We’ll explore an immersive exhibition called Dialogue in the Dark, were blind guides help visitors move through multiple environments, experiencing the world without sight. Creative Director John Zaller and exhibition guide Gloria Fisher talk about the mission behind this experience and the profound impact it has upon visitors. As the Dialogue in the Dark website says, while the “exhibition environments have been carefully crafted, the physical space is not the focus of the experience; it simply provides a frame for interpersonal connection”. Join me on this adventure into darkness…and the world of the “other”. I promise your perspective about sight will never be the same.

Hi,
this is a great interview and report.
I would like to know, whether we could publish this podcast on our international Dialogue in the Dark website (www.dialogue-in-the-dark.com)?! Dialogue in the Dark is an international project, which has been presented in over 30 countries in the last 20 years. It is always great for our guides all over the world to receive this positive feedback!
Again: GREAT interviews!!! And looking forward to your reply.
Greetings from Germany,

Absolutely, Maret! Please do. I had such a wonderful time experiencing the exhibit myself and then interviewing Gloria and John afterward. It’s an amazing exhibition; I am so glad you are creating this kind of experience for people throughout the world.

Teresa,
It’s amazing what we can discover when we shut off certain senses, opening our mind and changing our perspective on the world around us.
Another brilliant show and one that illustrates how engaging in experiences outside of our own can allow us to innovate by “seeing” the world in a whole new light.
Cheers from Canada
Jeff
